IYT Mentor Fellowship
Mentor – 30 Hours per week

Organization Overview:
Improve Your Tomorrow (IYT) was founded in 2013 with the mission to increase the number of young men of color (YMOC) to attend and graduate from colleges and universities. We envision a world where men of color are overrepresented in higher education, underrepresented in the criminal justice system, and leaders in their communities. We work to combat academic inequities and build a college-to-community pipeline with remarkable resilience, authenticity, and passion.

Mentor Fellowship Overview:
IYT’s Mentor Fellowship Program is an opportunity for diverse college students and emerging leaders to develop strong, innovative, and empathetic leadership skills while supporting young scholars of color on their journey to and through college. IYT’s Mentors serve year-long fellowships (30 Hours/week) with one of IYT’s signature programs; College Academy, IYT Community College, or IYT University, and Provide the following services.

Responsibilities:

IYTCA Mentors (High School, Middle School, & Continuation School)

Deliver or Present student development workshops (this can include college advising, civic engagement, life skills, etc).
Mentors are assigned a caseload of 25-35 students with the goal being to provide academic, emotional, and mental support (mentorship)
Teach A-G understanding to all students (mentorship)
Weekly communication with parents/guardians in regards to the student academic, emotional, and mental growth (mentorship follow-up)
Provide a space for individuals and groups for A-G academic support (after school)
Input and Organize information into our Database (Salesforce)
Participate in Developmental Training events (1x Month)
Participate in College Tour events (2x Semester)
Participate in Team Builder events (1x Semester)
Participate in Pop Up events (2x Month)
Support Program Manager on/off site as needed..

IYTU/CC Mentors (Universities/Community College)

Participate in Monthly development training on Saturday.
Meet with student caseload of about 25-35 students providing one on one mentorship
Plan and facilitate monthly workshops (such as networking, resume building, professionalism etc.)
Organize and participate in career tours one or two times per service year
Plan and facilitate community service events one to two times per semester/quarter
Host and facilitate virtual meetings across college programming network
Input and Organize information into our Database (Salesforce)
Serve as a on-campus resource, referring students to student services, activities and opportunities
Other duties as assigned from Program Manager

Qualifications:

Passion and commitment to IYT’s mission, vision, and values
Possess good organizational skills and complete paperwork promptly.
Have a valid driver license (preferred)
Ability to commit to meeting service hour requirements
Spanish language skills preferred but not required
Must be a US Citizen
At a minimum, be a high school graduate, GED recipient, working toward attaining a high school diploma or GED during their term of service.
Agree to obtain either a diploma or GED before using an education award.
Agree to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete Background Checks, including National Service Criminal History Check

Biweekly Living allowance of $782 for 30 hours per week
$4400 Education award upon completion of program requirements
Student Loan Deferment, (for all loans that qualify)
Leadership Development training that prepare fellows to be leaders in their communities
Wellness workshops designed to support fellows’ mental health, wellness, and personal empowerment.

Program Timeline:
April: Priority Deadline
May-June: Applications Reviewed on a rolling basis
Mid-August: Fellowship Begins

Term of Service: August 2022 – July 2023
Mentor Fellows starting their service in August 2022 will be required to attend Mentor Fellow Orientation in Sacramento, Ca. Mileage reimbursement and/or transportation will be provided from August 15-19th, 2022.

Schedule Requirements: 30 hours per week; Monday through Fridays between 8:30-5:00pm, most Saturdays included.
