Meta’s Safety Policy team works with external stakeholders and internal teams across Meta to understand the relationship between our platform and the safety and well-being of those on our platform, and to support the safety and well-being of our diverse global community through our policies, tools, resources and partnerships.We are seeking an experienced and effective leader and manager to help our VP of Safety Policy set and execute on the team’s strategy and support team development. This individual will establish and lead operations and procedures that ensure efficient execution of that strategy as well as communication of the strategy and the team’s efforts within the team and company. They will oversee the team’s subject matter experts in their execution of that strategy and have the opportunity to work on key x-industry initiatives. Through their efforts, they will seek to maximize the team’s overall impact across both the team’s and Meta’s mission.The role requires an analytical thinker and strong communicator with operational acumen, sound judgment, an exemplary work ethic, and excellent people and collaboration skills. Successful candidates should have an interest in and knowledge of online safety and safety policy, tech sector experience, the proven ability to evaluate the policy and safety implications of our policies, tools, processes and systems and help set strategy and the operations to support execution of the strategy, as well as a proficiency in presenting to a variety of internal and external audiences, including leadership and policymakers, and the sound judgment to help team members manage relationships with our internal and external stakeholders. They will be comfortable making decisions when appropriate and will be able to effectively make recommendations to internal teams and leadership. Candidates should be dedicated, detail oriented, creative, resourceful, analytical, and knowledgeable about online safety and technology policy issues. They will be comfortable meeting high expectations under quick deadlines and prepared to lead, direct, and execute to get work done well and fast.Willingness to handle frequent calls during different time zones and to travel when required is expected.
Director, Global Safety Policy Responsibilities:
Work with VP of Safety Policy and team leads to help set team strategy
Build and lead efficient and effective team processes, systems, playbooks and communication channels to scale and maximize team’s impact
Oversee team’s road mapping, goal setting and prioritization
Work with team leads to track team progress toward goals and impact
Establish and maintain, with the support of team leads, systems for periodic communication of team’s efforts to internal stakeholders
Work with team leads to establish more formal systems for monitoring, analyzing and responding to policy issues regionally and globally
Oversee team’s formal systems for collecting expert input
Oversee team’s formal systems for providing external feedback to internal stakeholders
Manage small team of SME leads
Build relationships with and understand the perspectives of partners on internal teams such as Product, Public Policy, Sales, Partnerships, Operations, Marketing, Communications, and Legal
Help articulate Safety Policy concerns, issues, philosophy, decisions and supporting rationale to relevant internal parties, including management, operations, and other internal stakeholders
As needed, serve as an effective advocate for Meta regarding safety issues, including in external meetings and conferences
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
10+ years of strategic and operational experience within policy, policy enforcement, partnerships, or programs linked to technology, safety and/or security
Experience working at a tech company or with tech clients on Internet/social media/media safety and content issues
Experience with OKRs and KPIs
Experience with analytics and problem-solving
Experience with consensus-building and collaboration
Experience working cross-functionally with numerous teams across policy, research, legal, operations, program, business and app development
Experience operating independently
Experience communicating with senior leadership
Experience representing organization with external stakeholders from various sectors, including civil society and governmental bodies
Knowledge of Meta products, features, platform, and policies and operations, as well as knowledge of online safety landscape is essential
Effective communication, analytic, organizational, proactive work ethic, and interpersonal skills needed
Demonstrated experience working in a rapidly growing and fast-paced environment, think and move quickly, produce results under deadlines, juggle many different projects at once, find pragmatic and creative solutions to business issues, provide concise and business-focused advice, and make sound judgments
Preferred Qualifications:
MPA, MBA, MM or other relevant advanced degree
Global and cross-industry work experience
