The Optical Product Development team is looking for an experienced and self-motivated optical engineering manager to lead one of the best optical development teams in the world. Your team will lead the new technology development of VR viewing optics for all FRL Hardware products. All of your work will change the landscape of capabilities of virtual reality and augmented reality hardware through a close collaboration with both internal and external partners.
Manager, Viewing Optics New Technology Responsibilities:
Build, mentor and support a world-class optical engineering team to lead new technology development of VR viewing optics.
Lead the team in identifying new technologies and driving the technology roadmap.
Lead the team in executing new designs and maturing associated technologies ready for product intercept.
Hands-on involvement in the development cycles through design, rapid prototyping, user experience validation and trade-off studies.
Work closely with internal and external partners to identify, define, develop, test, and deploy state-of-the-art solutions for VR viewing optics.
Establish diversified industry partnerships to facilitate viewing optics technology and product development.
Champion engineering excellence and a data driven culture.
Up to 25% domestic and international travel required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Extensive experience and knowledge on optics, optical systems and optical metrology.
People management experience (2+ years) in consumer electronics product development.
Effective communication skills.
BS degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics with 5+ years of experience, or advanced degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline with 2+ years of experience.
Experience of cross functional team communication.
Logical and creative thinking experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge in both sequential and non-sequential optical design software is preferred (e.g. Zemax, Code V, LightTools, FRED and/or ASAP).
Expertise in several of the skills listed below is required and some familiarity with all of these skills: Precision optics manufacturing, Optical coating design and process development, Polarization optics modeling and analysis, Optical system Image quality evaluation, Optical metrology and characterization.
