We need you to break things. We are seeking an experienced threat data scientist with an investigative and adversarial mindset to help us identify our gaps before nefarious actors beat us to it. You will be using your subject matter expertise in technical feature abuse to data mine threat actor abuse tactics, developing predictive models of feature abuse, and quantitatively analyze proposed features to identify existing or projected exploits of product features by threat actors. The threat data scientist will conduct feature investigations and proactive threat assessments in priority areas of livestream, monetization, new feature launches, and targeting behaviors towards our users. The work of the Product Hunt team is critical to TikTok user safety, and the Product Hunt threat data scientist will have the opportunity to identify and mitigate the most harmful threats targeting the platform and our users.

What will I be doing?

Work cross-functionally with product managers, program managers, operations, policy, and communications teams to find gaps in current threat response processes such as detection and mitigation.
Develop and test predictive models of feature abuse.
Data mine threat actor behaviors and tactics.
Work with a team of experts that not only respond to known bad actors, but proactively search and identify potential threats in order to build scalable protections to keep them out.
Identify deceptive behavior of threat actors and collect and analyze signals through data analysis, and work with engineers to improve detection models and develop data driven mitigation strategies.
Actively strengthen intelligence gathering and investigation SOPs.

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Criminal Organizations, Economics, Business, Cybersecurity, other relevant field, or equivalent military experience
Regional expertise in the United States and Canada, as well as the impact of feature abuse across markets
2+ years of experience in threat analysis or feature analysis, such as Trust and Safety, Fraud, Integrity, Product Development, Money Laundering, or Cyber Security, with at least 2+ years of experience in a desired threat area.
3+ years experience conducting data driven threat analysis
Strong understanding of statistical methods
A proven record of identifying signals of nefarious behavior or feature abuse and using creativity with experience to mitigate complex threats
Experience with data modeling, mining, and/or clustering algorithms
Experience investigating high harm threat actors across global markets
Strong and proven data analysis skills
SQL, Python or similar scripting languages, or Statistical analysis (multivariate analysis of variance, correlation/regression, etc.)

Preferred skills/qualifications:

Strong critical thinking skills with ability to apply theorems or analytical techniques to discover insights that are not readily apparent
Link / Network analysis
Excellent communication skills

Identify anomalous behavior and determine ways for further exploring new research leads
Communicate coherently, and crisply to incident response teams and senior leadership

Ability to work across time zones with global team members and stakeholders
