Position Summary:

The Libraries physical spaces consist of the Langson Library, the Science Library, the Library Gateway Study Center, and the Grunigen Medical Library. The Science Library Circulation Unit is responsible for the in-person operations and services at the Science Library including providing customer service at the Check Out Desk, circulating items such as books and technology equipment, maintaining the stacks, and processing reserves. The Unit provides paging and pickup services which includes maintaining the Science Library smart lockers. The Unit also runs our poster printing service and study room reservations.
Supervises students and Library Assistants who are performing routine and / or largely operational duties as part of the overall operations of a library. Responsible for day-to-day operations. Provides technical guidance and resolves issues such as general communications and complaints, processing materials, and bibliographic checking. Incumbent is responsible for billing disputes and reconciliation for library materials.
Compensation Range:
$48,500 – $67,000

Required:
At least 5 years of related experience in an academic or public library or relevant education and training.
Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively to promote teamwork, diversity, equity, inclusiveness, and accessibility within the UCI Libraries and on campus. Superior ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing with supervisors, staff, and patrons. Excellent problem solving skills. Demonstrated customer service skills. Ability to handle emergency situations in a professional manner following the Libraries’ emergency and security procedures. Effective supervisory skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive issues. Working knowledge of library circulation systems. Experience in developing, writing, and implementing operational procedures. Skill to prepare and monitor budgetary documents. Ability to work effectively with frequent interruptions and distractions. Effective organizational skills to meet deadlines and satisfy priorities by directing workflow of staff performing multiple functions. General knowledge of library practices and procedures; problem solving skills.
