WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Volcom is looking for a Global Snow Designer for Men’s & Women’s Non-Technical design. The ideal candidate has an outstanding aesthetic and understanding of the men’s & women’s snowboard lifestyle and its consumer. The designer will be responsible for researching, designing, and prototyping products that provide an elevated experience in the mountains. This person needs to be a natural diplomat that can take design direction, as well as absorb all global feedback and infuse their take directly back into the line. The designer should be an avid snowboarder or skier that has a deep knowledge and love of the snowboard lifestyle.
Design Non-Technical 2nd layer, Beanie, Headwear, Socks, and Miscellaneous Accessories categories
Design & develop snow specials programs (i.e. snow divisions smus)
Color story manager (pantone ordering & building)
Aid lead designers in the maintenance of design books for ALL snow categories
Follow direction from Creative Director to build product packaging & trims
Comment/approve color proofs used in seasonal catalog (helps calendar flow)
Assist in the proofing process of seasonal catalog
Assist in the preparation of yearly design presentations (roundtables, sales meetings and/or internal design reviews)
Take the lead during fittings on assigned styles
Facilitate the review of proto and sealing samples for design comments and input into PLM
Support department coordinator in catalog shoot preparation and be available to assist with in-house catalog shoots
Centric systems manager for design duties (thumbnail cads, final tech pack uploads, etc.)
Research and provide information related to global market analysis, trending, and competitive landscape
Understand & assist in the global merchandising of each category
Travel inclusive of market research, vendor communications, sales meetings and select tradeshows
Write routine reports and correspondence.
Tech pack Ownership: Generation & Maintenance specific to design responsibilities
Other duties as assigned
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
At least 5 years’ experience in a design department
A Merchandising, Design, Graphic Arts degree or Bachelor’s degree is preferable and appreciated
Must be able to lead presentations with strong verbal and visual execution. Should be detail-oriented, punctual, reliable and professional.
Read and interpret documents such as department memos, rep-reports and pertinent periodicals and books.
Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Expert in all following software programs (Mac OSX, Panther, etc., Illustrator, CS, CS2, Photoshop) and intermediate in Microsoft Word and Excel
Expertise required in:
Conceptualization of global product offering
Fabric, Trim and Raw Material Selection
Cad generation and initial style information details
Fit Direction & Maintenance
Fabric Design & all component approvals
Maintaining quality standards
Continual introduction of innovation (aesthetic and/or technical)
